Past Accomlishments

2010 was a very successful year for the Lafayette Park Neighborhood Association. A few of the notable successes were:

  • Lafayette Park Neighborhood won the CONA Energy Challenge. This would not have been possible without the hard work of Jim Pfost and all of the neighbors who took extra steps to reduce their footprint. Great work!
  • LPNA was awarded the Neighborhood of the Year from the City of Tallahassee.
  • A community orchard was started in Lafayette Park. Keep an eye out for blueberries.

These accomplishments are the work of a great neighborhood coming together to create a community that is safe, beautiful and lively. Thanks for a great year.

Help us get Lafayette Park and the Neighborhood Association back on track again!

Welcome to the Lafayette Park Neighborhood Web Site

The Lafayette Park Neighborhood Association wishes to welcome you!

The Lafayette Park Neighborhood is located in Tallahassee, Florida, just northeast of downtown Tallahassee. The neighborhood is bordered by Miccosukee Road in the south, Thomasville Road in the west, 6th Street in the north and Centerville Road in the east. The centerpiece of our neighborhood is Lafayette Park.

The area is named for Marquis Lafayette, the French aristocrat and military officer who volunteered his services to the American cause in the Revolutionary War. In recognition of that service, Lafayette received a land grant in the Florida territory. This land grant is commemorated by a monument in the southwest corner of Lafayette Park which marks the western border of his Florida holdings. Lafayette Park with the McCollum Community Center is the centerpiece of the neighborhood and is a natural gathering place for all of us. The Community Center offers recreational and arts & crafts classes for city residents (children and adults) in addition to an after school program.

The Lafayette Park Neighborhood is defined by its architecture, predominately styles from the 1920s through 1940s, including many eclectic revival styles that were popular at that time. The Architectural Styles that have been identified are: Craftsman Bungalows, English Revival, Colonial Revival, Mediterranean Revival, frame vernacular, and brick vernacular. There are over 500 homes and structures with the Lafayette Park Neighborhood.

Until the mid to late 1920’s the area was primarily farmland and orchards. The farms gave way to residential tracts developed independently during the late 1920’s and 1930’s. For a more thorough history of the neighborhood and some individual homes visit the Tallahassee Trust for Historic Preservation, 301 E. Park Av.
